Raison d'etre

Images via Pinterest

A while back I was lucky enough to have a little sunshine bestowed upon me by the gorgeous Claudia of The Paris Apartment in the form of an award known as the sunshine award. I adore Claudia's blog & all things Parisian, so do pay her a visit, you won't regret it!

Instead of answering the same questions about myself I decided to share more about moi in the form of quotes. I believe all the quotes above will let you into my world, my looking glass...

Pardon my French ~ yes, at times I truly do have a potty mouth.
Mermaids ~ I have no interest in or perhaps just feel sorry for those who lead a shallow existence.
Dusty Corners of My Mixed Up Soul ~ I found that person when I was just 14 and we never let each other go.
Hermia ~ I played her once. A favourite character of mine. I am a tiny person but on the inside I am most definitely fierce. This quote sums me up to a T.
Dita ~ I adore this quote. I won't say I never have bad days, but I am very comfortable in my own skin & I know that I don't need to be everything to everyone. I'm the ripest, juiciest peach for some!
Oscar ~ I played Lady Windermere once & I have a special love of this play. I love all of Oscar Wilde's plays. I'm a very positive person & think of this quote often.
Fairytales ~ I truly believe no one is too old for them.
Adventurers & Dreamers ~ I am both.
Coffee ~ my day never really starts until I've had one.

For more of my favourite quotes, visit my Raison d'etre board on Pinterest.

PS: To all of you who drop by & leave a lovely comment from time to time, I bestow this award on you.

Stella's Secret Garden

Would you look at Stella McCartney's garden! This is the stuff that dreams are made on.  What an amazing wedding anniversary gift. Perhaps I shall leave this page open for my husband...? Haha!

To all a most joyous weekend!

The Dark, Blue Sea

All images by Looking Glass

A selection of holiday snaps my hubby took last month when we managed to sneak off for a few days to Port Stephens to spend time with our family. The first day there were crazy winds, hence the little shipwreck. The rest of the time was gorgeous. I found a real starfish & thought it deserved a little kiss before I popped him back into the ocean.

~

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the universe, and feel
What I can ne'er express, yet cannot all conceal.-

Roll on, thou deep and dark blue ocean-roll!
Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain;
Man marks the earth with ruin-his control
Stops with the shore;-upon the watery plain
The wrecks are all thy deed, nor doth remain
A shadow of man's ravage, save his own,
When for a moment, like a drop of rain,
He sinks into thy depths with bubbling groan,
Without a grave, unknell'd, uncoffin'd, and unknown.

His steps are not upon thy paths-thy fields
Are not a spoil for him-thou dost arise
And shake him from thee; the vile strength he wields
For earth's destruction thou dost all despise,
Spurning him from thy bosom to the skies,
And send'st him, shivering in thy playful spray,
And howling, to his gods, where haply lies
His petty hope in some near port or bay,
And dashest him again to earth: there let him lay.

The armaments which thunderstrike the walls
Of rock-built cities, bidding nations quake,
And monarchs tremble in their capitals,
The oak leviathans, whose huge ribs make
Their clay creator the vain title take
Of lord of thee, and arbiter of war;
These are thy toys, and, as the snowy flake,
They melt into thy yeast of waves, which mar
Alike the armada's pride, or spoils of Trafalgar.

Thy shores are empires, changed in all save thee-
Assyria, Greece, Rome, Carthage, what are they?
Thy waters washed them power while they were free,
And many a tyrant since: their shores obey
The stranger, slave or savage; their decay
Has dried up realms to deserts:-not so thou,
Unchangeable, save to thy wild waves' play-
Time writes no wrinkle on thine azure brow-
Such as creation's dawn beheld, thou rollest now.

Thou glorious mirror, where the Almighty's form
Glasses itself in tempests; in all time
Calm or convulsed-in breeze, or gale, or storm,
Icing the pole, or in the torrid clime
Dark-heaving; boundless, endless and sublime-
The image of eternity-the throne
Of the invisible; even from out thy slime
The monsters of the deep are made; each zone
Obeys thee; thou goest forth, dread, fathomless, alone.

And I have loved thee, ocean! And my joy
Of youthful sports was on thy breast to be
Borne, like thy bubbles, onward: from a boy
I wanton'd with thy breakers-they to me
Were a delight; and if the freshening sea
Made them a terror-'twas a pleasing fear,
For I was as it were a child of thee,
And trusted to thy billows far and near,
And laid my hand upon thy mane - as I do here.

Latest Girl Crush ~ Lana Del Rey

Credits: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight

Her album is on constant replay in my home of late. Can't seem to get enough of Lana Del Rey. Short but sweet today, my life is too crazy busy at the moment!! My iphoto has some serious issues at the moment, but as soon as it's fixed I will share those promised images from my recent mini getaway to the bay.

I shall leave you with the beautiful songstress herself...
