MBFWA 2012 ~ Akira

The beautiful gowns of Akira Isogawa at MBFWA. Akira never fails to disappoint with his East meets West, brightly coloured gowns, feathery headpieces, & whimsical neck adornments. Loving his bridal collection.

Akira is an unbelievably talented designer, with a very different approach to designing. He's very inspired by the movement of textiles and the way it drapes, so he often makes his patterns based on the way he drapes the fabric rather than on a flat surface, almost like he's choreographing fabric! You can hear more about this on this youtube video of Akira designing the costumes for The Australian Ballet's Romeo & Juliet in a past post of mine here.

  1. How fun! It all reminds me of a flower show.

  2. I have always loved Akira from his beginnings such easy to wear and feminine flattering styles!
