Les Liaisons Dangereuses

Last week I attended Wharf 1 in Walsh Bay to see STC's production of, one of my most favourite plays, Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons). Thanks to sponsors Audi, we got to enjoy the most delicious canapes and wine out on the wharf overlooking our gorgeous harbour. See my instagram snaps below...

Now, back to the play. Hugo Weaving as Vicomte de Valmont, wonderful! I've seen him on stage before but Wharf 1 is such an intimate space and to see every spectacular facial expression from him was magnificent. He was so light on his feet and cheeky and his voice just draws me in. He has such a commanding stage presence. Pamela Rabe as the manipulative Marquise de Merteuil was very, very powerful indeed. Her cruelty, so understated that it packed a truly stoney, icy punch. In fact, the entire cast were very strong indeed, proving that this wicked tale is still as relevant today as it was in the extravagant 18th Century.

If you're in Sydney and up for a night of "elaborate game(s) of revenge, seduction, humiliation and cruelty" then I highly recommend you head to Wharf 1 to catch Sam Strong's version of this oh-so-devious play by Christopher Hampton.

  1. A little far for me but it would be tempting--I love that play too! Would have loved to have given Merteuil a go. ;)
